As many of you might already be knowing, the much awaited Google Fiber has finally made way to one of the competing cities of United States and that lucky city is Kansas City, Kansas.
Kansas City managed to leave behind more than 1100 other competing communities and have therefore been chosen as Google’s first choice for setting up ultra-high speed broadband network across the city.
Kansas City, with a population of just 145000 residents, has been chosen as first Fiber city considering several factors, which have been summarized by Google in its announcement post. Here’s the key excerpt:
In selecting a city, our goal was to find a location where we could build efficiently, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local government and community organizations. We’ve found this in Kansas City.
But there has been some disappointment among other communities who showed up active participation and enthusiasm towards Google Fiber project and did their best to attract Google and choose them for the project. But there’s one thing that everyone must understand here that Kansas city is the first but definitely not the last city to get Google fiber network.
Google will keep the talks going with other city officials to explore the possibility of expanding Google’s ultra high-speed network to other U.S. cities.
So, if you happen to be a resident of Kansas city then you have a reason to rejoice. Else, don’t loose your heart. Google could also choose your city as its next Fiber city.
