AT&T’s comments over expanding Fiber Network: “It’s a couple of years Journey”

During Brainstorm Tech conference organized by Fortune last week, Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO-AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets was questioned about several things including iPhone 4 reception woes, network capacity expansion plans, among other things.
In reply, De la Vega had a lot of plans to discuss regarding spectrum and bandwidth enhancements, especially in those crowded areas where AT&T users complain the most, such as New York.
But when asked about AT&T’s plans to expand Fiber Network across U.S., he indicated that things are in the planning stage and it will take considerable time for AT&T to make significant progress in Fiber network expansion.
Here’s what the CEO had to say over Fiber network expansion plans..
“It’s a process that just takes time. We have a very deliberate process to get fiber, but it’s a couple of years’ journey.”
Now it’s a no-brainer fact that Fiber Networks certainly take time to build and the whole fiber-laying process is time-consuming for any company but still, AT&T doesn’t seem to be giving enough importance to expanding its Fiber network as of now.
In comparison, Verizon’s efforts with high speed fiber network are quite visible and Verizon is looking to cement its position by making huge investments in that respect.
